With Googles new social search engine, sites with more +’s may rank higher, at least when a person is signed into their Google account.

What’s more important to take away here is that even old methods of backlinking still hold weight and if done right will greatly benefit your rankings and traffic flow to your pages. These methods, such as acquiring authoritative, relevant links on other sites that are related to your sites content, will always yield great results.

These links however are becoming very expensive and unless you are a large sized company the cost does not outweigh the benefits any longer.
